My sister is attending a golf school and learning to play golf in order to benefit her career — though not because she is pursuing a golf career.
No, knowing how to play golf benefits my sister's career in other ways. For years, she has worked for a major bank: as a teller, lead teller, personal banker, assistant business banker, and finally as a credit analyst. She has learned that most business deals are negotiated on the golf course. Therefore, in order to be successful as a banker, she had to find someone to teach golf to her.
Golf is an important tradition in the banking culture. For example, check out this commercial I've pasted below. It really demonstrates how important golf is to the image of financial success!
